In Greek mythology the titan god Promethus gifted the human race with fire and thus endured the wrath of Zeus. As punishment he was hung upside down while an eagle devoured his liver which would then re-grow only for suffering to be repeated each day.

It is well known that Prometheus was punished by Zeus for stealing fire to give to humans. But less known is the fact that Zeus withheld the fire to punish Prometheus for tricking him into eating bones instead of meat.
